restorations

When teeth require restorations due to decay or wear and tear, we use the best materials and the most modern techniques and Technology to achieve a life-like long lasting restoration. We do not use Mercury containing Amalgam (commonly called ‘silver fillings’).

Many people are nervous about having dental treatment and we use very gentle careful techniques to make your treatment as comfortable as possible. For those who still struggle with the thought of treatment we can prescribe drugs to reduce anxiety or provide Intravenous Sedation so that you are totally unaware of your treatment.

If you are having your old silver fillings replaced you can elect to have “Barrier techniques” used to ensure no Mercury containing residues are swallowed or inhaled.

Composite Restorations

Many people are concerned not only with stained fillings in the front teeth but also unsightly, black metal fillings in the back. Advances in material sciences have provided a tooth coloured alternative that has properties suitable for all areas of the mouth. Composite Restorations can also be added to teeth to dramatically change their appearance. Whilst removal of any filling can potentially damage the surrounding teeth, careful build up of a tooth using composite resin can enhance both strength and appearance.

Amalgam fillings are still the most commonly placed filling in back teeth throughout the world, amalgam fillings are the cause of increased debate both in the dental and public domain. The controversy centres on the mercury content of the material and at Backwell Dental care we believe that Mercury Amalgam has no place in modern restorative Dentistry.
