Patrick Kennedy, Principal Dentist

Patrick Kennedy, Principal DentistPatrick, the principal at Backwell Dental Care, is a highly trained cosmetic and general dentist with many years experience. His extensive knowledge and advanced training allow him to practice the most delicate and effective cosmetic procedures available today. Patrick’s main interests lie in making real and lasting improvements to his patients’ smiles. He is trained in Oesteo ˆTi Implants, Invisalign Orthodontics, Facial Aesthetics, Porcelain Veneers and the latest Tooth Whitening systems. Patrick trained at Guy’s and won the Newland Pedley prize for excellence in operative dentistry, general dentistry and prosthetics. Any spare time is spent with his family, running, kitesurfing, mountain biking and playing tennis.

Paul Bucknell, Dentist

Paul Bucknell, DentistPaul qualified as a dental technician making precision crowns and bridges before becoming a dentist. He received the LS Farrar scholarship for 2 years while at dental school. Paul is the postgraduate IT tutor for the South West and works part-time at the Bristol Dental Hospital. He has also worked with the Eastman Dental Institute and the Royal College of Surgeons of England developing postgraduate educational material for dentists. Paul specialises in cosmetic dentistry and all-round family care. He has been a member of the team since 1998. Paul likes to spend his time computer programming and being with his family.

Naomi Wilding, Hygienist / Therapist

Alison Howe, DentistNaomi has worked in dentistry for approx 10 years as a dental nurse, where she completed many post certification courses, finally attending University at Cardiff Dental Hospital in 2005 to train as a Dental Therapist. She qualified in Dental Therapy with distinction in 2007, also collecting two clinical prizes for restorative and hygiene work. In her spare time she enjoys going to the gym and playing Netball.

James Jenkins BDS MFDS RCS (Eng)

James Jenkins DentistJames qualified from Cardiff Dental School with a Merit and went on to do Vocational Training in South Wales, where he won the prize for best clinical presentation for cosmetic treatment. One year of General Professional Training including a 6 month post in the Restorative Dental Department of Cardiff Dental Hospital followed, where he learnt to tackle more advanced dental problems for patients referred in. He also worked in a community dental clinic treating and in the Oral & Maxillofacial surgery department of a local hospital. James then returned to general practice. His main interests involve the treatment of tooth wear, root canal treatment and cosmetic dentistry. He is currently studying part time for an MSc degree in Implant Dentistry at Warwick University.

James enjoys playing golf and tennis in his spare time, and is a keen surfer and guitar player.

Jackie Sandy, Hygienist

Jackie Sandy, HygienistJacky qualified as a Dental Hygienist in 1982 from Bristol Dental Hospital and then went back to London to work in practice and hospital. She returned to Bristol in the early 1990's and worked part time as a Tutor Hygienist at the Dental School as well as doing some work with the Clinical Trials Unit. Jacky enjoys going to the gym, walking and travelling in her spare time.

Helen Garrett, Hygienist

Helen Garrett, HygienistHelen joined Backwell Dental Care in July 2006 after qualifying as a Dental Hygienist from Newcastle Upon Tyne Dental School. During her time studying, Helen was awarded the General Dental Councils Prize for Professionalism. Following graduation Helen moved back to the area where she now enjoys spending time riding her horse and playing hockey. Her up to date knowledge and commitment to her profession is a great bonus to the practice.

Madeleine Fielder, Oral Health Educator and Senior Nurse

Madeleine Fielder, Oral Health Educator and Senior NurseMadeleine is our Senior Dental Nurse and is a qualified Oral Health Educator, she enjoys the challenge of teaching young children how to prevent Dental Diseases.

Madeleine plays Hockey for a North Bristol team and is a very keen snowboarder.

Steven Harper, Osteopath

Steven Harper, Osteopath Steven qualified from The British School of Osteopathy in London in 2003. He has spent the last 5 years in Suffolk working in one of the top osteopathic practices in the country. It was here he developed his superior osteopathic skills and highly advanced pain management techniques. He has gained a vast wealth of experience in treating all aspects of musculoskeletal injuries and dysfunctions in patients ranging from professional sports people to office workers.

As a local boy, Steven attended Backwell School and now wants to bring his highly developed and advanced osteopathic skills to the community in which he grew up. Steven enjoys spending time with his family and friends as well as enjoying archery and playing golf in his spare time (although some rounds of golf are more enjoyable than others!!).
